DEFINING STYLE : DESERT UTILITARIAN

Pin It Now!

Let's cut to the chase...
Pulling off basics with finesse is sometimes like crossing Niagara on a tight rope.
Just when you think you have all the elements ready,
something's too boxy or too bright or has one topstitch too many.
So I figured I'd walk you through how to achieve that easy,
nonchalant, "oh just pumping my gas lookin like a million bucks"
style.  Starting with what I'd call a Desert Utilitarian...
Anchored by a deep olive & uniform navy with
feminine accents of pink sands & dusty taupes.

I have a thing for olive--it's my first choice neutral outside of
black, white, & grey that allows a bit of room for "visual weight"
without being as heavy as black.

It's transitional tone, makes for perfect interchangeability
throughout the year, coming in a variety of weights from
linen to silks to wool.

frequently updated style board .

Until next time.

COME ON AUTUMN

Pin It Now!

Lately I have been giving Summer the stink eye.
Mainly because we didn't really have much of one here in Atlanta
due to the amount of rain we've seen.
It makes me think Spring just stuck around for the after-after-after party.
Also, that crisp autumn chill has arrived in the morning hours.
So, I've decided to help Summer pack her crap and rainy days and
fluff out the welcome mat for fall.
It's my favorite season, largely in part to the fact that my birthday is in the fall,
but because it's so ridiculously beautiful and layering is my "thing".
I love having a sweater or scarf wrapped snugly around me.
I feel a little incomplete without one or the other.
Madewell's fall additions didn't help summer's case one bit.
I mean, how necessary is their Bien Fait pullover??? Very, I must say.
Yeah the skimmers and flouncy dresses are great, but gimme a pullover and
a bag with the looks of a strong drink after a long day.
Do Tell! What shops have you geared up for the seasonal shifts?---Kel

STYLE GUIDE TO: BLOGGER MEET-UPS

Pin It Now!
It's mid-summer and it's time to go out.
Southern Blog Society (Atlanta) is hosting a blogger meet up
next Tuesday so I figured in the spirit of it all,
I 'd put together a few outfits that would be appropriate for your next
blogger meet up.

2 WAYS 2 WEAR

Pin It Now!

1  2  3  4  5  7  8  9  10  Pants

Happy Friday Everyone!
I Hope you have greatness planned for this weekend.
Even if it is just staying in and catching up on your shows you missed during the week.
But maybe your planning an outing with the beau or gals.

So, if you are at all like me you are busy,
on an budget, and in love.
Three things that don't compliment each other at all,
but seem to always be a mainstay.
The Hub and I are always looking for opportunities
for some alone and adult time
(not the frisky kind, just the swanky kind without kiddy shows blaring in the background)
I am not the type to shop for myself all the time, even though I would LOVE to.
Time is usually a major factor and so are expenses.
But when I do get the chance to indulge, I like to purchase pieces that are not only flattering
to my curves, but to the rest of my wardrobe.
I hate it when I splurge on a 1-wear piece---
You know that pattern skirt that
goes with absolutely nothing else in your closet. Yup.... That!
I tend to purchase pieces that compliment my work life,
but never my love life.
Leaving me in a frump when it comes to dressing
for an impromptu date night.
That is why I decided to focus on these pants.
They are such a great foundation piece for the
transitioning season.
Nice slim cropped fit paired with a great
Autumn color that can work
with a variety of hues and occasions.

These outfits would be perfect for
running around the office during line review season or maybe an
evening stroll through the High Museum of Art.

SO SO

Pin It Now!

It was the hardest thing to select which photos to select for this board
because of the plethora of yesness that exists on her style.
i can't explain the urge to thrift/shop altogether
when Solange pops up.
Look at her zing....
her spark....
her style is EVERYTHING!!!
In my head we would be friends and i would call her So-So
(don't look at me crazily. i know i am not the only one that has imagi-celebs-bffs)

I think I connect with her a tad bit more because
not just for her eclecticism, but more so for the fact that she
is a young mother making shit happen for herself.
Yes, she has more of a name boost than most but
she has definitely succeeded at creating a path of her own that
separates her from the pack.

Happy Monday!!!!!
