UN-TAMED

Pin It Now!

Some serious hair crushin' going on in the grouping above huh?!
So over the weekend I did something new.
Not as drastic as sky diving or anything, but definitely equally as freeing.
(ahhhh. For those that are natural, you know what a huge deal the first time is)
If you have been reading for a while, you know that I have been
transitioning. (Growing out my chemically relaxed hair)
There have been several reasons I haven't done this before.
1. I'm too busy--Levi doesn't give me much free time these days to primp.
2. I was scared.--I typically wasn't involved with the wash &
style process since I decided to transition,
so the dual textures made it difficult to handle on my own.
3. I was worried.--More so of how I would look afterward. Would my husband still
find me attractive. (He is a hair guy and has always fawned over my long locks).
Will my style
have to change to fit into the #teamnaturalista /
#curlygirl / #curlyhairdontcare / #straighthairisforwimps mold?
Do I have to change my persona to fit in those molds that I have
never really wanted to fit in the first place?
So many insecurities.
It's funny how you an get so trapped in a box of your own emotion and ideals for yourself
and lose out on full on awesomeness by being safe...all the time.
That is what my relaxed hair was/is. Safe.
And I have completely released myself from the need to identify myself with one
specific group. I have always strayed from the pack, so why would that change now.
I guess I assumed that growing my hair out was some how conforming
to a new normal, but in actuality it wasn't. It was something I have always wanted
but never had the patience, schedule, time, or resources to complete.
Now I will have the versatility I have always wanted, plus more.
I won't get too Iyanla here, but I will say that I am quite happy with the direction
this is taking. --Kel

GIRL CRUSHIN: TRACEE ELLIS ROSS

Pin It Now!

There is still a chill in the air....
I'm feeling a little trapped and lusting for freedom of a different sort.
I've been in rare form (more on that later) and just overwhelmed with life.
When I stumble upon this photo of Tracee Ellis Ross,
It seemed to evoke all that I was craving.
This happiness... light weight feeling... the lips...the hair(going on a year in transition)

Such a beauty...
I hope you are well and finding your bliss.
Cheers & Bisous!

Hey there!
So, I am transitioning.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with this term, it basically means that I am growing the chemical relaxer out of my hair. This tends to be a very insecure and frustrating time for women, from a styling perspective, because you are working with 2 different textures of hair. To alter my new normal frizzies and curls, I have I decided to try something that givens an instant transformation and cleans up my look a little.

1. Start out with slightly poofed hair.  If you have straight hair, give the under layers a little backcomb to create some texture and volume.

2. Grab an elastics headwrap. I prefer to use a neutral color that is close to my hair color.
** Goody’s Doublewear Headwraps would work perfectly too to add a little shine to your bob

3.Take a hair color ponytail elastic. Secure the ends of your hair into a mini bun. Tuck this into the base of the elastic headwrap. You should now have nice neat bob.

4.With some bobby pins, you can pin back any stray strands, but a few tendrils falling wont hurt.

And there you have it!! Going from long to short hair, has never been this easy, huh?

It's just tucked away.
When, I get really lazy and don't have enough energy or a spare
3 hours to wash, dry and style my hair,
this is what I turn to.
The Tuck Away.
Kinda like the milkmaid braid in reverse.

Here how to get the look yourself!!!

When my hair gets....
finicky
this is what i do to keep it out of the way.
I don't have much time in the morning to get supah glam with curls
and such so this helps control heat damage and strain.
Plus, its just easy....
